Atlantis Comes Alive
The main skill I am hoping to improve this year through the process of the media arts summative is my originality and creativity. When creating art I often struggle with creating something purely from my own imagination, I would scroll through the thousands of pictures I have saved and decide which one I’d like to draw with some tweaks. I have searched the internet and concluded that nobody has created concept art on the theory of Santorini island being Atlantis, this would force me to create something completely original with only minor references such as Greek clothing or the style of Greek architecture.
Another crucial skill I would develop is, my time management skills. Concept art is a polished and high quality piece of fine art that requires time, effort and planning put into them as each piece could take well over ten hours of total work time. My goal is to have seven to ten complete and polished art pieces, completed by the end of this year, one every month. I would have to plan my time wisely so I can have an effective balance between my summative work, current school work, and family time.
The audience I aim to attract are people who enjoy forms of artistic media, other artists, and potentially post-secondary art schools. It is people who enjoy art or other artists where the feeling of accomplishment stems from when they like what you create. Those who look at art often and create art themselves can effectively judge if an art piece is good or bad; people who are less experienced may find an art piece that is mediocre, very good, or may have unrealistic expectations.
Currently, I also hope to catch the attention of post secondary education art schools to improve my chances of being accepted into their program. In the future though, concept artists aim to attract employers who see their art to hire them so they could generate revenue. These artists are either paid to work on one project and help many different companies, or are hired by one company and help with all projects earning a steady salary.
I will be realistically capable of completing this project on my own because I have all the required tools needed to create my art. I also already have some prior knowledge and experience to concept art, in my free time, I have created several pieces but never to this scale, they were always simple and rough sketches.
