I began my large scale Minoan scene with several thumbnails each with completely different views and perspectives. I ended up choosing the one seen below, I choose it because of the dynamic angles, the statue and the figure.
Digital art tutorials state that even if one is drawing a setting, there must always be an emphasis, a center point; be it an amazing castle, a large tree, or a figure in the scene. The focal point in this quick sketch is the statue, in Minoan culture their goddess was central to all aspects of life and was regularly worshiped. Females played a major role in religion as they were the only ones allowed to act as priestesses and caretakers for their deity. It is essential that their religion is portrayed in my concept art.

Research
The Minoan Palace of Knossos is in ruins, barely recognizable, today but in the ancient era it was the most impressive palace ever created. It was the first large structure to contain multiple stories other than pyramid in shape.
I research the web for an image or charts that show a clear image of what this palace would have looked like and I found something even better, a video presenting a 3D reconstruction of this palace.
The palace consists of frescoes, the colors red, blue and white consistently appearing throughout the interior. There are large axes and pelts for ceremonial decor, they used to worship and sacrifice bulls.
