Character Concept Art (Pencil Sketch)

I had planned on drawing the common people of Akrotiri Greek in appearance (Caucasian, light hair, dark eyes, etc). I discovered that they fell in a different category of people called "Minoans", the Minoans are more Mediterranean in appearance (tan skin, dark hair, dark eyes)

New Experiences

I began by working on the elderly man, he is by far out of the four faces my favorite. Before this, I had actually never drawn an elderly face before, most of my experiences being with characters between 15-30 years of age (this is influenced by the TV shows and comics I read). I always avoided drawing elders, I thought it would be extremely difficult because of the wrinkles and different facial structure caused by the extenuated bones, it was easier than I expected. I already had the basics covered, wrinkles in the skin match the contour lines I regularly practiced when shading the faces of younger figures; these contour lines are simply more intense and frequent all over the face.

Before this I had also rarely drawn significant amounts of facial hair. It is actually easier to draw characters with beards because the jaw is the hardest part to illustrate and facial hair covers it.

Plan

I plan to bring this picture into Photoshop, the final copy will be in shades (grey scale only). This will allow me to grasp the basics of Photoshop before I learn how to create a transparent layer of color for my later pieces.
